Regardless, I decided to get up and make the most of the continental breakfast on offer, and it was at this point I opened the curtains to a glorious sunny day. Now, it's not really been sunny yet. I did see some sun on Sunday afternoon but apart from that it's been grey and rainy. So I decided it was probably best to make use of the weather and cycle along to the next town at least. That would stretch the legs out and mean I have at least cycled in the sun. Afterall, I don't want to cycle in the rain the whole time and I shouldn't pass up the opportunity when it is begging. Seeing as I wasn't going to go far I took my time over breakfast, did a little route checking based on the information the domino's pizza guy had given me the night before, and then set off at about 10.45am.
I got to Silverdale, the next town, fairly swiftly; in fact far quicker than I expected so I checked the map and saw that Bremerton was the next on the route, so I may as well head for that. I got to Bremerton pretty quick as well. It was at this point I realised it is home to the US navy. As interesting as that may seem I wasn't compelled to hang around so I thought I may as well head on to Belfair, which according to the map was only another 12 or 13 niles away and should be a good place to stop for the night.
I got to Belfair much quicker than expected, and it didn't appear to be a good place to stop for the night, so at this point with it being only 2 o'clock in the afternoon I had a quick look at the map again and saw that Shelton was the next town along and looked much bigger and slightly more interesting. I put my head down and managed to get to Shelton just before it got dark, which was lucky as my front light had run out of battery! 56.92 miles on the speedo. Not bad for a rest day.
Just outside Bremerton - Puget Sound Naval base... and I think the first aircraft carrier I have seen in the flesh!:
Some photos are worth stopping and messing about for ;)
