It was another wet day in Oregan. In fact, after researching before I came I knew Oregan was going to be wet all the way through. The fact I got a clear day yesterday was a bonus, so I shouldn't complain. I knew today was going to be a wet one after every tv station and website I came across told me so. So, with this in mind, I thought I would try and be up and out early in order to not end up cycling in the dark again.
I needed to stop in Tillamook to grab another spare innertube, now that I am completely paranoid I'm going to get a puncture every 5 minutes! I invested in a thorn proof tube, which is 3 times thicker than a usual one. What's the betting I never get to use it! I also made use of their high pressure pump as my small one just doesn't have the oomff to get my tyres up to the right psi (or maybe I just don't have the oomff to make it happen!)
So onwards, into the rain, and the void - it was pretty foggy this morning. I had set my target as either Lincoln City or Newport (yes, I am still in the US and not middle England) the idea being if I got to Lincoln with lots of light left I would head on to Newport. The cycling went fairly well. The rain switched between heavy and even heavier throughout the day, and I thought I had a good chance of making Newport. That was until the hill that pops up out of nowhere between Pacific City (whoever called it a city must have been having a laugh) and Lincoln. It virtually finished me off! I'm sure I went up hills bigger than this one on the previous Sodden day, but this one seemed to go on and on and on.
By the time I reached the peak, my legs had gone, well and truely gone. The plus point was I just had to sit there whilst my bike rolled me down the otherside to Lincoln. The first signs of fatigue or maybe just the fact I didn't have any of my trusty Gatorade today, either way it meant the day ended with 55.90 miles on the speedo. And no pictures. Far to wet to get the camera out. No punctures though.. had there been that really would have finished me off!
Am Loving that beard, Wezo!!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the blog posts. Enjoying them a lot. And the photos too. Cracking stuff. Am very jealous (apart from the punctures).
Big love from the Taj Mahal
