So, I suppose the first thing to do is get the route down on paper, that way when I actually set off and see that their aren't actually any signs to L.A in Vancouver I'll know the direction I should be heading out of town.
The first stop will be the U.S boarder, at Blaine which is between between Vancouver and Bellingham. Bellingham has been pencilled in as overnight stop No.1 but if all goes well I'm hoping to get past that on day 1 and camp somewhere a little further south. The way I look at it the further I can get early in the trip, the better! Weather is also a interesting proposition in November but figure it's going to be tough going whatever so a bit of rain won't hurt. The good thing about travelling in the autumn is there will be less RV's on the road, so less likelihood of being run off the road!
The plan is to cover 50 miles a day on average. With the planned route being approximately 1720 miles this average equates to 34.4 days of cycling. It's feasible that I will cover 100 miles some days, and 20 on others. So the 50 average is a fair medium. The coastline does provide some steep climbs which obviously take longer, but ultimately everytime there is a steep ascent there is a descent to follow. You can see an overview of the route below; although I will be stopping at Los Angeles rather than following all the way through to Imperial Beach, probably.
I'll give a more detailed step-by-step route once I've actually worked it out. At least this gives you an idea of what lies ahead!
